East Side Middle School, MS 114

East Side Middle School (MS 114) is a 530-student public school on a through block site in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Brightening its corridors is a public art display named, “Northeast Light”— part of the “Light Installations” Series by Artist, Mary Temple who has a passion for exploring the emotional and intellectual effects of natural lighting. Her artwork is an excellent display of biophilic design as it incorporates the concept of playing with light, transparency and color to connect the building occupants with nature.
