Sugar House Condominium Renovation
Originally commissioned in 1863 as a Civil War-era sugar warehouse, Sugar House Condominiums carries a rich architectural legacy. Today, the reimagined structure offers a rare combination of historic character and waterfront living. Tasked with brightening a dark and enclosed interior, the design team embraced a biophilic design strategy, focusing on materials that foster natural light, well-being, and a strong connection to the environment.
Architectural glass played a pivotal role in this transformation. Throughout the residence, decorative glass was used to promote daylighting, introduce color and visual texture, and provide durable, easy-to-maintain surfaces suited for modern living. One standout application included the use of GGI’s Alice® direct-to-glass printing, specified with the Noonan Bound design. The glass was back-painted to achieve full opacity and used in oversized cabinetry fronts, enhancing storage solutions while adding visual interest and a refined, custom finish.
GGI’s glass solutions helped brighten the kitchen, bathrooms, dining area, and library. The updates created an open, modern interior. This thoughtful renovation honors the building’s historic character while supporting functional, wellness-focused living.
