Striding by Catherine Woods

“Striding” is a public art display created by artist Catherine Woods for the Core Residencies.  This beautiful decorative glass and stainless-steel sculpture features abstract artwork that was inspired by photographs of the Silver Springs, Maryland area. Woods calls it “a sculpture for the site, of the site, inspired by the site.” As the sun moves throughout the day, it changes details of the art, ensuring a new experience for the viewer every time. Alice® direct to glass printing was utilized to capture the artist vision and to create a durable solution to withstand the elements.

Thirteen glass panels are incorporated in the sculpture that is 20'0" x 11'0" x 5'0". Each unique disc was created using an ultra-clear low iron glass and Bubbles patterned glass printed with Alice® Direct-to-Glass Printing. The glass is laminated using a .060 SentryGlas® ionoplast interlayer to protect the artwork and exposed edges from the elements.
The Striding public art is enhanced with LED lighting for a stunning night display.
